Academic Representation

Welcome

At Roehampton Students’ Union, making sure your academic voice is heard is one of our top priorities. That’s why we work with a team of trained, elected student reps who help shape your learning experience by gathering and acting on your feedback.

What are Academic Reps?

Academic reps at Roehampton make sure student voices are heard at every level of the University. The system is made up of Programme Reps, School Reps, and the elected Vice President Education (Sabbatical Officer), all working together to raise issues, suggest improvements, and celebrate what’s going well in your academic experience.

Each elected Rep plays a vital role in making your academic experience better whether that’s raising issues, celebrating what’s working, or helping to shape decisions that affect your education.

Who represents you?

Each elected Rep plays a vital role in making your academic experience better whether that’s raising issues, celebrating what’s working, or helping to shape decisions that affect your education. Find out how they represent you.

Programme Reps

Programme Reps represent students at the course or programme level. Each programme should have at least one rep who listens to student feedback, raises concerns at Programme Boards, Student Voice Forums, and staff-student meetings, and works with staff to improve your learning experience.

You might have reps for different year groups or types of study (e.g. undergraduate, postgraduate taught, joint honours, international, or mature students). They’re the first point of contact for any academic-related feedback.

School Reps

School Reps are senior student representatives who work at the school level to support Programme Reps and represent wider student feedback. At Roehampton, each academic School has two School Reps: one for undergraduate students and one for postgraduate students.

They attend key university meetings such as School Boards and the Education Committee and work closely with the VP Education and RSU staff to ensure student voices influence decisions at the highest level.

Vice President Education

The VP Education is a full-time, elected sabbatical officer responsible for leading on all things academic at the SU. They:

  • Oversee the academic representation system
  • Support and train reps
  • Attend University-level meetings like Academic Board
  • Campaign for improvements to your educational experience

They’re your go-to person if you want to talk about the big-picture issues affecting students across Roehampton. Ultimately, the VP Education works to ensure that the academic representation system is being used effectively across the University. If you’ve got ideas, concerns, or questions about your academic experience, they’re a great person to speak to.

Find your School Rep

School Reps are key partners for senior academic staff. They benefit from regular meetings with Deans or other leaders and help escalate feedback where needed.

Other Opportunities To Get Involved

Roehampton Students' Union works in partnership with the University of Roehampton to ensure you academic interests are represented. In addition to Digital Rep, and our Academic Representatives, there are plenty of other opportunities to get involved with Representation & have your voice heard:

  • Student Voice Forums - these events are an opportunity for students to socialise with peers and staff, and provide informal feedback about your academic experience. They are student-led and run termly. Click here to find out more.
  • RSU Education Forum

Do you have feedback that's not academic? Perhaps you'd like to create change on campus by submitting an idea, or join a network? We encourage you to check out our other Representation opportunities too:

  • Student Networks - Student Networks are representative communities led by students, which focus on liberation, campaigning and giving a voice to marganisalised communities. They are safe spaces for students to discuss important topics and work in partnership with the RSU to improve student experience.
  • Presidents' Committee - The RSU is here to promote and address key issues that affect YOU at Roehampton University. We are student-led and informed by your feedback. Presidents' Committee is our system of gathering your feedback and ideas, which we then use to direct our campaigns and work to make the improvements you want to see.
  • Meet your Elected RSU Officers - these officers are here to represent and promote your voice on campus! Throughout the year,  they will work on campaigns to imrpove your student experience, and ensure you have the best time at University!
