‘There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle, because we do not lead single-issue lives’- Audre Lorde VOTE FOR AN NUS DELEGATE THAT'S FAB: VOTE FOR FARRAH ALICE BLACK!

My name is Farrah Alice Black and I am running for NUS delegate (woman’s place). After attending the NUS Sustainability Summit in Sheffield on Monday, I realised this was a position I feel incredibly passionate about. I’m already very dedicated to campaigning and supporting causes that are dear to me: I’m your elected gender equality officer, a chicken volunteer with Growhampton, on the committee board for National Student Pride, the UR Pride LGBTQ+ Network, and president of RoePaul’s Drag Society. I am also RSU events crew, a Bystander Intervention Lead, and a member of SSOAP and Players- so if you ever see me around please say hi, it’d make my day!

I am running for the opportunity to take my hard-working, dedicated, and passionate attitude and put into something that affects students across the country, and beyond our campus. A quote by Audre Lorde was mentioned at the sustainability summit that particularly inspired me: ‘There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle, because we do not lead single-issue lives’
This attitude is what I will take into the role of NUS Delegate. When voting on NUS policy, reports, and elections, I am representing Roehampton Students. Not my own experience, but the many varied struggles and experiences of you, your friends, your course mates and housemates.

As NUS delegate, my priority will be ensuring I go to the NUS with the most accurate understanding I can of all Roehampton students’ experiences. I will work closely with every single part time officer, as well as reaching out to students directly. I never want to vote on an NUS policy knowing how it affects me- one white, cis, ginger bisexual with one ear- without the confidence of the student body behind me, so I can vote on what’s best for everyone.
