Your university experience is yours to shape; a vote for me is to ensure that Digby works for YOU.

Hello all, if you aren’t familiar with who I am, I’m Annabelle King, better known to most as Annie. I am a second year Classical Civilisation student here at Roehampton University. So far my time are Roehampton has been nothing but amazing; and I’d love to be able to give back to both Digby and the university so as to ensure new and continuing students carry on having the same rewarding experience as myself. I’m writing this manifesto to outline my main ideas for why I’d love to be your next Digby Deputy President.

My main aim as Deputy President is to create a stronger sense of community here on Digby as; although we are the biggest college, I feel that it is not as social as it could be. With the opening of the new media centre next year, I feel Digby is the perfect place on campus to really heighten the social scene. I intend to create bi-weekly/monthly events on campus; whether that be movie nights or game nights, anything you lions want to do to socialise more, and spread their college pride.

One aim is to create more realistic termly socials for Digby. I would also like to build on the hard work of the past Deputy’s, and continue to create socials which are more local to campus; and try to keep ticket prices as low as possible, to ensure everyone has a fair chance of attending.

Another priority of mine, in order to continue to strengthen the social side of Digby, is to create more art based events. Not all students enjoy drinking socials, so I plan to make events which cater to all your different interests. The introduction of SPARK last term proved a tremendous success and I would like to continue to work with this society to ensure it is accessible to all students to get involved in. Whether this be either by pitching ideas for events, or by performing, hosting and attending.

I also plan to work with the Mental Health Officer to continue the university’s amazing work on raising awareness of mental health issues. I intend to create more fundraising events, especially during Mental Health Awareness week to make involvement of others far easier and make it a more relaxed environment, so that all students feel they can get involved.

I would like to think that I am an approachable face around campus, so that if I was to become Deputy President, anyone could feel comfortable to come and talk to me at any point of the day. I am a very driven person, and will always intend to see a proposal through to a successful outcome; or find alternatives which still make sure your ideas are heard and put into action. I want to use my experiences from the past two years to help give others the best experience in their time on Digby and spread college pride to all students!

Love, Annie x
