Are you Baba-shook by the lack of LGBTQ+ representation? Don’t sashay away, Join the Queer Frontier and vote for Annabel to serve as LGBTQ+ Officer!

Hello, I'm Annabel. I'm a first year student of Drama, Theatre & Performance and Creative Writing. You may have seen me strolling around Digby Stuart in a skeleton onesie, performing as a Drag King, or delivering Spoken Word poetry in the Digby Diner. You may even have observed me in orange paint and a green tutu in Drunken Drama. But today, I present not an act, but the authentic Annabel who strives for social and political justice for all.

As an outspoken queer woman, I aspire to unite the Roehampton LGBTQ+ community and ensure equal representation. In the run up to this election I’ve been asking you guys what needs to be improved for LGBTQ+ students - I have moulded my aims around your feedback:

  • To establish a Roehampton Pride celebration / festival.

  • To break down isolating divisions within the LGBTQ+ communities and work on uniting the different branches as one supportive community – with a focus on involving and representing pan, ace, trans and non-binary students.

  • To be available to provide confidential advice and support in person, including support for queer people of faith.

  • To be a mouthpiece for feedback in order to maintain high standards for LGBTQ+ students.

  • To establish more LGBTQ+ events - including charity events – throughout the year, not just during LGBTQ+ History Month. This could include some events which don’t revolve around alcohol, but are chilled out activities to enjoy together e.g. games nights, team-building challenges, trips into the city, or sporting events.

  • To oversee educational events that raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues for all students – especially regarding biphobia, transphobia, visibility and erasure.

  • To campaign for Pride / Rainbow BOP to become part of the RSU yearly calendar.

  • To make sure that LGBTQ+ events are well-advertised and made accessible to everyone.
