Southlands!

My name is Shez Khan and I am running to become your new Southlands College Deputy President.

My Story

My journey was different from most Roehampton students as I had not received the required results for my first and second choice universities. However, with the use of clearing, I managed to find a place at Roehampton.

This meant that I had to live off-campus for my first year, but I found myself spending most of my time in Southlands because of the events and people the college had. This was a driving factor that pushed me to move on-campus for my second year. I can honestly say that I have never looked back ever since! Therefore, I want to give back to you, the students as I believe I have multiple ideas that can help to improve your student life on Southlands.

My Ideas

  • New Speakers for the reef

With the access of new speakers in the reef it will improve the atmosphere and allow you, the students to have better socials.

  • Beer Pong Tournament

Having a beer pong tournament will allow students across Southlands on and off campus to meet each other.

  • Make rooms in Queen’s Building 24 hours during exam periods

We all know how packed the new library can be so by having these rooms available it will allow for you, the students to be able to work in a more open environment.

  • Networking Events

With the aid of my connections within the business department and the RSU, I will look to create networking events that will allow for students to be able to meet future employers so they can get an insight into different jobs.

  • Interblock competition

This will allow students to compete in sports for example rounders, cricket and badminton. At the end of the year, the team with the most points will receive a prize.

  • Continue to use social media communications

  • Bar Crawl

At my time at Roehampton University, I have been a programme, flat and department rep which has allowed me to build up a wide variety of connections from the college team up to the RSU so I will utilize these connections to try my hardest in order to carry out these ideas. I will also look to keep tight communications with the flat rep’s and the department rep’s in Southlands so I will able to better promote events across to all students.

Lastly, Sharks my focus for the future if I was to become the Deputy President is to improve student life. We all have a hard time when it comes to our university work therefore by improving student life it will help to take your mind off stress for a short period of time.
