Hi Badgers!

My name is Stacey Grimes (…well, not quite but shhhhh, lets not talk about that), I’m a second-year Biological Sciences student and I’m running for the position of Whitelands Deputy President! And YES my mum DOES have it going on!

Many of you might have met me in one of the numerous Roehampton freshers’ group chats during the summer (shoutout to The Snake Pit!) or simply have seen me walk around Fez socializing with pretty much everyone (and everything), always holding a lollipop. You might also recognize me as the “always overdressed girl” who, for some reason, insists on wearing heels to BOP.

Roehampton and Whitelands have become my home for the past two years, the place where I have made amazing friends and shared wonderful memories that I’ll always carry with me. However, the most important thing Whitelands has taught me is to get involved, take action for what I believe in and always strive to change and improve in all aspects of life. Well, now it’s time for me to give back to my community!

My goal as Deputy President is to work along with the President and senior staff of the college to organize more events and activities and create more incentives for Whitelands on- and off-campus students to bond as a community and become an active and recognizable force in the greater university community. My focus is on organizing more events aimed at all four colleges as well as some Whitelands-only events which will utilize our beautiful Whitelands Field and elevate our college’s social status. Furthermore, the major changes I’m hoping to make are:

  • Create dedicated social space with a pool table, table tennis, board games and card games as well as beanbags and a projector for movie nights. This area will be available to ALL students 24/7 and will hopefully encourage off-campus students to socialize more on campus after lectures.
  • Introduce more food options at the Canteen for students with special dietary needs (e.g. quality vegan options), a snack vending machine and a coffee machine for all those late-night study sessions.
  • Buses picking up students from Whitelands before RSU events, such as Fez and Grand, and dropping them back after, as many students don’t feel comfortable walking to and from main campus in the dark.

Being a flat rep this year and working closely with the current Whitelands team in helping organize and carry out events has given me a better insight in the college’s social aspect and I promise that your voice and requests WILL be heard.

If you already have a favoured candidate PLEASE give me your 2nd vote and you won’t be disappointed!!
