My name is Sophie Gibbs and I am going for the role of female Sports President. I am currently a member of the committee for Roehampton Women’s Rugby and through an incite to a great opportunity I got involved with sport and want to promote and encourage sport further throughout the University. I want to make sport a focus point for the students of Roehampton.

Some ideas I have involve lectures with professional sports men and women to promote sport, offering the opportunity for others to gain knowledge and motivate those involved.

I would like to arrange well advertised events for all sports teams such as tournaments amongst one another that will help promote each individual sport, giving each team equal opportunities to thrive and show off what they enjoy. Whilst, additionally being able to offer a moment for all teams to get excited for, similarly another idea is holding tournaments in which sports teams involved cross over, helping meet new people as well as a bit of healthy competition.

A key part of my campaign is to see through that lectures at midday on Wednesday’s should be adjusted as keeping up with a sport should not have to hinder contact time with lecturers.

I feel it important be in contact and work with as many societies and groups across campus as possible. Therefore, I aim to work with The Hive and Growhampton in order to promote healthy eating as well as cheap and affordable food ideas to help students. As well as this, working with Sport Roehampton to create fun events across the year, paying close attention to This Girl Can week. Also with connections in the Women’s rugby team I would like to work with the LGBTQ+ society in helping to promote female contraception.

As your female sports president, I want to make sport a focus point for the students of Roehampton. I want too promote as much opportunity to all as possible, whilst encouraging a the love and excitement for those all already involved, acting as a positive advertisement for those who may be apprehensive to try something different.
