Focus on your degree, leave the rest to me

Hello wonderful student, yes you, reading this right now, you are wonderful. I am Romeo, and I would like you to vote me as your next RSU President. Now that I’ve buttered you up we will get to the politics…

But first let me tell you a bit about my time at Roehampton. I arrived at the gate not feeling so fresh after a long weekend, waving goodbye to friends and family My mother dumped me with my concerned flat rep. Having spent three years running a bar, the expectation that ‘UNI’ would offer me anything other than assignments and headaches was low. How wrong I was. Two and a bit years later I have made friends for life, opened my mind to thoughts I'd always disregarded, freed myself up and, most importantly I’ve just became a happier, better version of myself.

I’ve lost tragically on Take me out, been Flat and Program Rep, got lost for RAG, Co-hosted leadership conferences, thrown a Varsity party, organised sports Tour and Frigby, been your Sports President and just about thrown myself into Roey life in general these last years.

I want all students to have the ability to grow, come out of their shell, have as many opportunities as possible and just feel as welcome and safe as I have. Now Here's how.

  • Fit for purpose social spaces on every campus. We can’t all use the Diner at once.
  • Roehampton App. All information, events, policies, phone numbers, Votes, Discussion boards, Advice. One place.
  • Two-week induction period. First week, you have fun, second week you have, Mental health, sexual consent, and life skills workshops.
  • First Aid Training, for ALL flat reps as well as Sports captains. Let students build their CV’s. There should be more opportunities like these in general
  • Invest in our Union Bar. Big screen, Pool table, Stage, bean bags. Make it a place to be, not just drink
  • Bridge disconnect between Sport Roehampton and the RSU.
  • Transparency on the University disciplinary process. No one knows what’s going on, it causes untold stress for students which is unacceptable
  • Continuation of ROCS (Reps off campus). Initiatives and incentives to bring students to events
  • Colleges to have a minimum event requirement for students. Open to on AND off campus students.
  • Rejuvenation of the FRESH NETWORK. A media platform for students.
  • Build society network. Grow societies and have them link so that we can all support each others events.
  • Build on our conferences. Hosting evening conferences as well as daytime ones so students can attend.
  • Better security, maintenance and cleaning. This wont be easy but it needs to happen.

Whilst the university has been great to me, there a lot of issues that need fixing, students should not have to worry about having fun and and feeling safe. They should be able to focus on their degrees first as well as being supported with everything else. Vote for me Romeo, so that you can focus on your degree and leave the rest to me.
