Hey! I'm Stacey Nurse, a second year Dance student and I’m running to be your Deputy President!

You’ve probably seen me around campus sporting bum-length grey braids; regardless of whether you think my mum has it going on, I have a few ideas to improve Digby college for all of you, here they are:

Having personal experience with mental health problems at Uni, I would work with the College President and Mental Health Officer to improve the publicity of the Welfare services that we have at here in Digby. We have a great Welfare team, but many students aren’t aware of the support on offer. I would be working closely with Welfare to encourage more of you lovely people to engage with that support, and develop what can be offered to you. My main aim is making sure everyone feels safe and supported.

Another key focus is to improve the security procedures at the main gate, as this affects our college the most during “lock down” hours. Installing a card reader whilst also having some security positioned there, would be a great start in taking steps to reduce the number of incidents we’ve seen this year.

As your Deputy, I’d relay any issues students may face, whilst aiming to combat them. This year, as a flat rep, we have had meetings with the heads of Security, Maintenance and Cleaning who agree that student interaction should be encouraged, something I wish to sustain. It is important to feel comfortable in discussing any issues you may experience with the services, whether you live on campus or not!

Socially speaking, I would like to make the Diner an equivalent space to the Union in Froebel. Adding screens to play different sporting events and possibly adding a bar, will allow for a social space in Digby; encouraging a bigger community feel in our college. I aim to set up more inclusive events – meaning those who can’t (or prefer not to) drink alcohol will be welcome, along with those who find flashing lights and loud noises intrusive. This goes for college cup events too.

I’d like to set up a common room in Digby that would go 24/7 along with the library, as suggested on the student Ideas page online, for off-campus students too. I wish to expand emphasis on the student ideas page to give you all a voice during your time at Uni.

If elected, I would be the first black female Deputy President of Digby college. I aim to work with the RAFA 2 team, to give BAME students ownership of our Higher Education. This, combined with more student-led events will highlight the different cultures we have at Roehampton, creating a richer community here in Digby Stuart.

I am friendly and caring and would like everyone to feel they can express themselves at Uni. I’d work hard alongside the college President to make sure your voice is heard.

Vote Stacey for your 1st or 2nd choice!
