Gavin Singh For Interfaith Officer!

Hey Guys, for those who don't know who I am - I'm Gavin, I'm in the 2nd year studying Theology & Religious Studies.

why you should vote for me!

It is essential for the Faiths and Faith-based societies present on our campus to work together, to create a peaceful and coherent space open to dialogue and awareness! In a world that seems to be growing in ignorance and violence, you'll need a strong, outspoken and organised officer to handle such issues, ensuring that our University stays closely and well knit together. One of the achievements that I am proud of this year is in helping found the Roehampton Coexist Society, an initiative founded on the principles of celebrating interfaith awareness and the multiplicity of belief. Studying Theology & Religious Studies is also an important credential that will allow me to represent the values of the multiple faiths on campus. I Intend to fight for equality and the expression of ethnic diversity in my work.

My 3 Propositions

  • No. 1 The establishment of "R.I.A"

Roehampton

Interfaith

Alliance

Voting for me as your Interfaith Officer will ensure that a permanent: coherent and organised dialogue is forged between the multiple faiths on campus - allowing us to come together and meet every fortnight to discuss the wider issues we face in our community and also celebrate its achievements. My aim in establishing "RIA" is to open up the seemingly closed faith groups and communities so that they align with the Roehampton values of sharing experience and love on common grounds. RIA will also be open to those who have no faith, because above all its about our voices being heard - to prevent isolation or division occurring on campus.

  • No. 2 stronger support of faith-based Societies

I have encountered many problems with the current system in place in concerns of support that the faith-based societies receive. it often feels that we are neglected and don't feel supported by the RSU, despite that fact that those who have faith make up roughly 7/10 of the students on campus. I will fight hard for our voices to be heard & for our societies to receive the amount of media attention they deserve.

  • No. 3 Looking out for minorities

Unlike previous years in Roehampton, 2017-18 has seen an all-time low in the presence of faith and faith-based activities on campus, or at least the promotion of events or celebrations. The University of Roehampton is founded and based upon the celebration of religious multiplicity... I believe its about time for us to revive this strength of ours and set an example for other universities. I feel that its about time that we recognise minority religious communities either too small or few in number to regularly commune on campus or even form societies - supporting groups like this will ensure that everyone knows they are equally represented!

Vote for me on the 16th of March!
