NAGLAA ELBAZ

We are as strong as our most vulnerable

Hi! I am Naglaa ElBaz, PhD student in Education Policy.

Why choose me?

Experience

What you have here is a student who has been through all stages, which makes me aware of the needs of each student group. Therefore, the vision of representation that I hope to bring to the role has inclusion at its core.

I believe I have a good understanding of the role of VP Education, not only because it is directly related to my studies in Education Policy, but also because of my experience as an educator and an activist, in addition to my RSU experience as Programme Rep 2015/2016, Department Rep 2016/2017 and Postgraduate Student Officer 2017/2018.

Resilience

Having faced many hardships and struggles, I know what a tough life is. I am a single mother and I have to balance many responsibilities while chasing my dream for a better future through education. This is why I am never intimidated to ask difficult questions and I am determined to always fight on your side.

Realism

When we talk about dreams, big or small, we have to think about ways of making them real. I am a results-oriented person; by this I mean being realistic in my approach. I will not promise you the world to get to a position. Please, always question the “how?” and make sure that promises will be fulfilled.

What are my priorities?

Reforming the Programme Rep system

This is the base for more inclusion to make sure we reach every student on campus. You should have your say in shaping your education. No more questions left unanswered, no more feeling isolated or unheard! I will put all my effort and experience in restructuring this system and training reps to make sure we involve the largest number of students in decision-making.

Addressing the Attainment Gap

Your background should not hold you back. Aspiration, access and attainment in education should reflect equality of opportunity. Being shy or not having the network of friends to help you does not mean you should achieve less. I understand how much you invest in education and it should be a worthy investment for you all. I will make sure all students are able to achieve their full potential.

Better Employability

Your next step in life should not be shrouded in glooms and mystery. Education is the right key to accessing a brilliant career. While I believe that education is an ideal in itself, a lifelong journey for seeking knowledge and truth, I do realize that many of you will rely on loans to have a good start in life. Therefore, employability is a concern which I am passionate about: More internships, more good placements, more employers to recruit our students. We have an exceptional pool of talent at Roehampton and they deserve to be in positions where they can shine.

Feel free to contact me. I will be there for you. It all starts with your vote.
