Hello, my name is Jaimie Makiyi and I’m a second year Drama studies student running for president of Digby Stuart college.

I want to run for president because I care about the university and college I both live and study on. I want to be a part of going forward with making Digby Stuart and the college system greater, allowing students to have the best and fullest university experience possible. Through being a flat rep this year I have helped people to overcome struggles by allowing myself to be the person that people can turn too if they have any worries or concerns. I believe that social events are a great part of the university experience (you will most likely catch me on the bus to Fez and Grand singing Digby till I Die!)

Barack Obama inspires me as he has overcome various barriers to become president. He has exceptional ability to communicate and represent people regardless of their background, gender, race, religion or disability, traits I’m sure I can bring to the role as Digby Stuart president.

If nominated as your president there are various changes I would like to make. This includes social events specific for Digby college such as raffle events and competitions held in our diner. This will allow people the chance to win freebies and tickets to events such as; Bop, Fez and Grand. All proceedings gained that evening will be sent to a charity of the students’ choice. On top of this I would also like to improve college cup events. Focusing on mental and physical wellbeing will ensure that students feel safe living on Digby Stuart as well as having the right facilities to turn to for help. Through this I would encourage sessions where people can sit and talk to one another over pizza nights and therapeutic crafts and in turn create a stronger sense of community where people can turn to one another for help. My other main focus involves improving the contact between maintenance, security and students as I am aware there is currently issues within the halls of residence in our college.

If you vote me as your Digby President, I will help to move the college forward improving health, wellbeing and the social side to our university.
