Laura gets results, So don't be a bore-a, vote for Laura

My name’s Laura and I am running to be your next VP education. I am the current VP education and some of the things I have achieved last term include getting a trial of an opt out system for recording lectures, instead of the lecturer having to start the recording it would happen automatically, this will prevent lecturers forgetting to record lectures, I am currently working on a report which is about the benefits of the university having completely hybrid. I have also been providing programme rep and school rep support through my drop-in sessions and 1-1s with programme reps. I have also provided school rep support. I have also made sure reps know where too direct students to by asking the student support team to create some videos directed at students.

If I was re-elected, I will:

  • Continue to lobby the university to improve accessibility to education for students with a disability, including having optional support classes run.
  • Lobby the university to remove the marking cap on assignments when students resubmit it.
  • Lobby the university to have a programme for all incoming students which would be a crash course in university life. It would cover topics such as how to submit on Turnitin.
  • Introduce a separate programme for international students which would include an introduction to the UK and the UK university system.
  • Work with the library to make it as efficient as possible for students, this includes things such as opening hours, use of study rooms and services offered by the library.
  • Ensure student support offered is equal across the university.

I have lots of ideas for the role including a tutoring service at the university, this would also be a job that students could have while they are studying. This could also be used by the students at the university if they felt it would benefit them.
