Spreading Peace, Love and Respect, the beauty of being a Muslim. Get your Voice Heard & Make a Difference Today!

Asalamualaikum/Hi Roehampton, my name is Sana Siddique, and I am re-running to be your Muslim Students’ Officer for the next academic year. Having two years’ experience within the role, I believe I have the skills under my belt and grasped the knowledge to best support students when needed and put on events/campaigns to engage the wider community. As well as being a PTO, I have previous experience as a Programme Rep, Photography Society Treasurer, Photography Society President through the Roehampton Students’ Union. Over the years, as I have gotten involved in more roles within the RSU I have been able to meet a diverse group of people and I hope to meet more if you were to continue elect me to be your PTO.

So… what will I achieve if I were to be elected?

1) Halal Food around Campus:

Every individual is unique meaning everyone will have different dietary requirements. Not having a variety of halal food on every campus is having an impact on student experience which is an issue. I will achieve the aim of this through working with the Roehampton Students’ Union and our Muslim Chaplain to get this back on track. I will also listen to the students to see what they want and see how we can improve the student experience within this arising issue.

2) Events within the Holy Month of Ramadan:

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic year, where every Muslim around the year fasts from dawn to sunset. As a multi-cultural, multi-religious community, I believe this is one of many opportunities to learn about other people’s religion and culture… so how about our very own Ramadan Podcast 2023?! I will hold Iftar (meal to break fast) on Friday for everyone to come together. I will also work with our Muslim Chaplain and ISOC to get displays up about Ramadan and Islam in the Library to raise awareness and let it be an opportunity to teach others about our religion.

3) BOP Style Event:

BOP events are amazing for who can attend at nightime, however some may not be able to attend for whatever reason, may it be cultural, religious or timing. Through my years of being a Muslim PTO, I’ve seen and heard many people say they wish they could attend BOP, which is why I will be doing events throughout the year BOP Style but with a twist in the daytime so more people can attend.

I will continue to work closely with the RSU, societies and Muslim Chaplain to ensure student experience can be the best. So, please consider voting for me between the 14th and 18th of March. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions: siddiqus5@roehampton.ac.uk. I’ve got the drive to make a change and improve the Roey Muslim Community; if you want to Get your Voice & Heard Make a Difference, please make sure you remember to go out and vote me to continue to work as your Muslim Students’ Officer.
