Make Digby More Fun, So Let Ras Run!

Who Am I?

Hi, I’m Ras, you may have seen me around campus working as a Student Ambassador, behind the bar at The Union or working on various Student Engagement projects around the university.

What Will I Do?

As Digby President, I will focus on building a close but socially distanced community within Digby Stuart College. I will be staying true to the values of the Sacred Heart Foundation who founded Digby Stuart. Taking the current Covid situation into account all my work as your President would be done safely adhering to the rules and regulations when working together with you, building the Digby community.

  • One of the first things I will do in the role of President is to begin a new campaign to bring flats and people in Digby closer together, in order to create bonds between all flats and students and not only those we live with. These are difficult times currently, and having a close community will help us all get through this together.
  • Secondly, I would organise more social events that are all inclusive so all students can come together and I will lead this by utilising the experience, knowledge and skills the Digby students have to offer. Having Digby societies lead events that are both online and face to face each week, using outdoor and indoor spaces for events such as; cinema nights, concerts and inter college competitions to name a few. I will work closely with the other college Presidents to make this happen.
  • I will organise safe off campus events for us all to attend allowing us to socialise in various different environments. Through working closely with the Digby community, these events will be events that the Digby students request.
  • I will work with students to find out what matters to you and together we can work on different initiatives to implement your ideas and what is important to you. I will also work with, and raise awareness of small local organisations and create awareness of the work they do through the creation of videos, posts and word of mouth while also raising funds for things that they may need like equipment. This would help provide a number of different opportunities for you all on Digby.
  • Adding to this I will work closely with the SAB officers and Wellbeing teams to set up a project regarding Men’s Mental Health and creating an awareness or a group where they can meet and socialise in a safe space, either chatting, going for walks or even playing games. This is something I would like to focus on largely as this is an area that I am passionate about and an area that can always be improved to help and support more men and end the taboo around this.
  • I will also work with the various different food outlets on campus to minimise food waste, by creating a team of staff and student volunteers who hold the same passion for this, helping students and community members.

I look forward to us making a positive impact.
