Our journey into St John Ambulance began in November 2018. We were able to join the organisation through the First Aid Society at Roehampton University. We underwent first aid training and became qualified first aiders with St John Ambulance.

It has been a fantastic journey so far, where we were able to volunteer and use our first aid skills at several events. We have had the opportunity to go to events such as the London Marathon, RSU Summer Ball, football matches, rugby matches and more.

We had plans to go to events in Summer 2020 such as British summertime concerts, Wimbledon tennis matches and much more. However, when Covid-19 hit, the plans changed, as the organisation supported the NHS during the pandemic. SJA supported the NHS as volunteers working in hospitals and supporting patients with different needs such as pre-and post-operation.

Stephanie had the opportunity to volunteer at Chase Farm hospital doing Covid-19 tests on patients that had procedures which was an exciting and challenging experience. However, it was gratifying as she was able to give back to the community and support people in need.

Post-lockdown, events began to take place again and we had the opportunity to attend England Rugby team training and several Premier League football matches with teams such as Chelsea, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Arsenal.

Currently, we are training as vaccination volunteers to support the NHS in delivering the COVID-19 vaccine. This is an inspiring opportunity which we are excited to participate in. We are looking forward to taking part in this as it will bring about positive change and be a part of history.

SJA is currently recruiting volunteers to be part of the vaccination programme. This is an excellent opportunity to get involved and potentially join the organisation.

We currently have weekly sessions teaching first aid skills to Roehampton students as well as socials. It is an excellent opportunity to get involved, learn life-saving skills and meet new people. You can find out more information on how to join here. Please feel free to contact us through email, Instagram or Facebook.
