Students' Union Council
New this year, Students’ Union Council (also known as SU Council) is the Union’s central policy setting body. It considers motions, debates proposals, receives officer accountability reports, and may call referenda. It is made up of students who represent different groups and communities across campus, such as Academic Representatives, Elected Officers and Student Groups.
After conducting a Democracy Review back in 2025/26 we re-introduced SU Council to increase accessibility and transparency of decision-making. Keep an eye on this page for further updates!
SU Council is Chaired by Ovie Aliboh, whilst the Sabbatical Officers support as joint Deputy Chairs.
SU Council provides the democratic space to:
- Set Union Policy by gathering the views of students and determining positions that are representative of the wider student body
- Provide student-led direction for the work of the Students’ Union by mandating Sabbatical Officers within the law and Articles
- Discuss, consult on, and receive reports regarding the representative work of the Student Officers and the wider Board of Trustees
- By resolution, call a referendum on any matter within the Union’s Objects, and endorse proposals for amendments to the Articles or Bye-Laws in accordance with Bye-Law 7
- Receive reports from and provide direction to SU Council Sub-Committees
