Meet Shane, your new President Education. Find out what happened in his first two weeks working at the SU.
Hello Roehampton students!
I am Shane Lemos, your SU President Education for 2026/27. I studied BSc Business Management, and I am excited to begin this journey representing you.
My first two weeks as President Education have been exciting, busy, and full of learning. I have had the opportunity to meet so many people across the University and the Students' Union, gain a better understanding of my role, and explore how we can work together to improve the student experience.
I am really looking forward to everything that is ahead.
What happened in the first week
My first week was all about getting settled in. We spent time getting to know the Students' Union team and meeting staff members from across the University. We also had our official officer photoshoot, which was a fun way to kick off the year.
It was fantastic to meet everyone, settle into the office, and learn more about how the Students' Union operates behind the scenes.
There was a lot of information to take in, but it gave me a strong understanding of the support available and how we can work together to create positive change for students.
What happened in the second week
The second week was just as busy and productive. I attended a range of introductory meetings with the Deans of the Schools, the Vice-Chancellor, and members of the University's governance teams. These sessions gave me valuable insight into the University's leadership, decision-making processes, and the importance of collaboration between student representatives and University staff.
Alongside these meetings, we completed several online training sessions designed to prepare us for our roles. The training covered key areas including leadership, effective communication, teamwork, professionalism, and our responsibilities as Sabbatical Officers.
We also developed a deeper understanding of how the Students' Union represents student voices and works in partnership with the University to improve the overall student experience.
What I am looking forward to
I am excited to welcome both new and returning students during Freshers' Festival in September and to start delivering my Priorities, collaborating with students and the University to create meaningful, lasting improvements throughout the year.
This is going to be a fantastic year for our Roehampton community, and I cannot wait to meet more of you along the way!
