We're back with another RSU Day Trip and this time we're going to the city of Oxford! Taking place on Saturday 7 November - see what you could get up to if you join us!
Back so soon? Of course we are. We can’t get enough of our RSU Day Trips.
We’re so excited to say that the upcoming trip is to the city of Oxford!
Taking place Saturday 7 November.
The sights and history of Oxford are second to none, and in this article, we touch upon just some of the things you can get up to when you’re there.
1. Visit the Ashmolean Museum.

For those who love art and archaeology, the Ashmolean Museum is the place to be.
Founded in 1683, its world-famous collections span everything from ancient Egyptian mummies to contemporary art.
Admission is completely free.
However, you may wish to book a ticket in advance to their Aphrodite – The Making of a Goddess exhibition for £16.80. This major exhibition covers 5,000 years of history depicting the changing myths, images and ideas that shape our modern understanding of the Greek goddess of love, beauty and desire.
2. Take a walk around Port Meadow.

No need to rush around if you don’t feel like it – take it easy at Port Meadow instead. It is the largest green space in Oxford and runs alongside the east bank of the River Thames (according to legend, it has not been ploughed any time in the last 4,000 years!)
Being a place of natural beauty, it’s a popular spot for relaxed sight-seeing, recreational activities, and observing local wildlife - horses, cattle, geese and more.
3. Admire the greenery of the Oxford Botanic Garden.

Walk the same paths once frequented by Alice in Wonderland author Lewis Caroll and The Lord of the Rings author J. R. R. Tolkien.
Oxfords Botanic Garden was first established in 1621 and displays more than 5,000 different plant species, making it a continual hub of biodiversity in the city centre!
Standard tickets to the garden cost £9.00.
4. Marvel at the eclectic collections at the Pitt Rivers Museum.

The Pitt Rivers Museum cares for one of the world's greatest collections of anthropology and archaeology. You’ll find more than 500,000 artifacts from around the world.
With an interior that’s makes you feel like you've stepped into a Victorian Time Machine, you’ll be sucked into all its magnificent wonders. And the best part? It’s free!
On the day of our trip, the Gaidinliu Collection will be put on display for the first time ever after being in storage for 80 years. You can also see the mixed media artwork from Saad Qureshi titled Geography of the Mind, exploring how fragments of different cultures are reshaped through memory and imagination.
5. Tuck into some street food at the Gloucester Green Market.

If you get hungry on your trip, this is a great place to visit. Gloucester Green hosts a historic outdoor market on 4 days of the week (and luckily on the day we are visiting!)
They offer a choice of typically more than 20 different cuisines from around the world, from Valenciana paella to Goan okra bhaji and chana dahl. You can also purchase various goods like flowers, clothing, jewellery, books and more.
There will also be events and entertainment on show including interactive craft stalls and poem writing sessions - so there’s plenty to see and participate in once you’ve settled on what to eat!
That’s not all
Oxford is full of opportunities and places to visit – including the famous University of Oxford itself. With a nickname like “City of Dreaming Spires”, the magnificent architecture and aesthetics are a perfect setting for a photoshoot, so get your cameras and phones ready!
