Calling all society members! Nominations for this year’s Societies Elections open on Monday 10 March and will run through Thursday 20 March 2025! 

Why become a society leader? 

Apart from having the opportunity to continue the outstanding work of this year’s society committee, you'll be able to plan and deliver events, learn a whole host of leadership skills, and contribute to making the next academic year awesome.

Being a society leader allows you to develop a variety of skills such as: 

  • Event management 
  • Project planning 
  • Charity legislation
  • Finance management
  • Managing volunteers
  • Public speaking
  • And more! 

P.s. don't worry, you'll receive training from the SU team on all of the above and we're always on hand to support you throughout your time as a committee member.

How to nominate yourself? 

Each society has three core committee roles: 

  • President: is the first point of contact for the society and takes the lead on key responsibilities that ensures the smooth running of the society, its events, and  activities. 
  • Secretary: looks after the society’s records and communications, including looking after the society’s social media channels. 
  • Treasurer: looks after the financial matters of the society, and ensures accurate records are kept for the society. 

Whether you have experience running a student group or are new to the world of societies, you can nominate yourself for one committee role per society. Please note that you will only be able to run and vote for those societies you currently have a membership for. You have until nominations open on Monday 10 March to buy your membership if you haven’t already, so act fast!
