Black History Month

This years theme for Black History Month is “Standing Firm in Power and Pride,” a powerful tribute to the resilience, strength, and unwavering commitment to progress that defines the Black community across the globe.

Throughout this month we will be signposting local events that explore this year's theme and provide opportunities to connect.

Interested in taking your involvement further than Black History Month? The BAME Network is currently inactive, and needs 3 eager students to run it! Our networks are safe spaces for students to discuss important topics and work in partnership with the SU to improve student experience. They provide an opportunity to create change within your community, and improve your time at Roehampton. Fill out our Adopt a Student Group form, and the RSU Representation team will be in touch with next steps.

What's going on?

Ghana on a Plate: 3rd October 12:30pm - 5:30pm; Devas Club; Join a Ghanian themed community lunch at Devas Youth Club open to the local community, youth club members and users of the building.

Lounge Onyx: 5th October 7:45pm - 11:45pm; Omnibus Clapham; Lounge Onyx is a unique event featuring some of the most talented and sought after Black cabaret performers in the United Kingdom.

The Jollof Off: 8th October 1pm - 2pm; Get ready for a sizzling showdown of the best Jollof rice in town at Tooting Works.

Echoes of the Windrush: 15th October midnight - 27th October 7:45pm; Battersea Library; Battersea Library are bringing together 36 participants – 12 from each generation – for a series of intimate, guided creative writing workshops.

Jamaican Supper Club: 18th October 6pm - 9pm; Jamaican Supper Club; Caribburton Caterers host an evening of food, fun and facts about the island of Jamaica

Black Owned Cocktail Masterclass: 23rd October 8pm - 10pm; Sugar Cane Bar; Come and experience black owned beverage brands through a cocktail masterclass.
