So you might have seen, nominations for the Student Leadership Elections are open!
We have a huge range of roles available for those who want to make a big impact in all walks of life at Roehampton! 📢 From full-time paid positions to volunteer roles, there is something for everyone who wants to make a change, you just need to find the right one for you!
Why do we have elections?
Each academic year at Roehampton presents different opportunities and challenges and Elections allow you to make change and have an influence on the things that matter most to current students.
From sabbatical officer roles, to student group leaders, elections are your chance to represent students, and have a platform to make the changes you want to see.
How do I get involved?
- If you have a strong vision for change, why not nominate yourself to represent students and work on priorities that really matter? By nominating yourself, you are doing your bit to represent the voices of all students to the university, local community and government!
- If running in the election isn't for you, that's ok! Just make sure to vote, so you can choose a representative that you trust to make the positive changes you want to see at Roehampton.

Why should I run for a role?
By putting yourself forward, you’re stepping up to represent students’ voices to the University, the community, and even those on a national level. You’ll be helping to improve academic experiences and make everyday university life better for thousands of students, and the impact you could make is tangible and real!
Still not convinced? Well here are lots of other reasons to run too:
- Earn over £28,000 as a full-time sabbatical officer
- Shape change on campus, not just respond to it
- Get to keep being a part of student groups and sports that you love
- Improve the day-to-day student experience for over 12,000 members.
- Receive professional training and mentoring from experts in, representation and leadership
- As a sabbatical officer you become a trustee of a registered charity, with governance responsibility - That's not a skill everyone can shout about!
- Build confidence in public speaking and decision-making
- Leave a lasting impact on Roehampton long after you graduate
All that sounds great, what next?
First things first, you will want to decide which role is right for you. What interests you and what areas do you wish to make change? Browse the roles and job descriptions here to help make your decision.
Next, it will be time to write a candidate statement or, in other words, a written explanation of who you are and why you should be elected. What do you think makes you stand out? How will you show up for students in this role? These are good questions to start with. If you're interested in knowing how to write a strong candidate statement, visit our Candidate Hub.
Then, you get the opportunity to have a candidate meeting. These meetings are an opportunity for you to learn about the role of a Sabbatical Officer and its associated responsibilities, as well as a space for you to discuss any questions you may have.
And then that's it! You're nominated. Campaigning comes next. But lets not rush too far, there's plenty of time for that later.
