Student Groups: Spotlight (December and January)

It’s that time again to highlight a few of our student groups and student group leaders who have been doing excellent work throughout December and January.  



Global Politics Society:

Global Politics Society has been delivering engaging and thought-provoking events, with a standout highlight being their recent field trip to the Mayor’s Office. They’ve been actively involved in Refreshers’ Fair and continue to run regular weekly events that are consistently well-attended and loved by their members. Their commitment to providing meaningful political engagement has been fantastic to see. 


Pakistani Society:

The Pakistani Society has shown incredible dedication over the past two months, hosting a series of highly successful events including Chai & Chill and their Mushaira Poetry Event. The society has demonstrated strong leadership, teamwork, and community engagement, creating welcoming spaces for members to connect and celebrate culture. 


Luke Pring from Music Society:

Luke plays a huge role in the success of Music Society by hosting all of their karaoke events, one of the society’s largest and most consistently popular activities. He brings great energy, is highly sociable, and helps create an inclusive and fun atmosphere every time. Luke is truly a valued member of the society. 


Desi Society:

Desi Society recently collaborated with the Students’ Union to deliver the Lohri, Pongal, and Makar Sankranti celebrations. The event was vibrant, inclusive, and welcoming, offering students from diverse backgrounds a chance to come together and celebrate. RDS were invaluable in running the event and encouraging interaction and cultural appreciation throughout. 


Film Society:

Film Society has been incredibly consistent, hosting film screenings every single week since becoming a society. Students are actively involved in voting for films, and each screening is made engaging beyond just watching the movie. The society also offers hands-on opportunities for members to get involved in filmmaking, including practical experience with cameras at events. They are doing an amazing job building a strong, active community and delivering high-quality events from the outset.
