At an emergency meeting of the Students’ Union Council a motion relating to the Arts and Humanities department and the university’s recovery measures was the sole item discussed.
At the meeting, the Students’ Union Council discussed the motion and the parameters under which it could base its considerations. Members reviewed steps the Students’ Union had taken to date to work with the university when consulting students on the matter, and they also received details of the university’s rationale and steps taken to preserve the interests of all students at the institution.
A further discussion was held to consider the steps that could be taken by the RSU to ensure that the interests of students were protected. It was proposed that the RSU take steps to present concerns of students to the university relating to academic progress, communication and student wellbeing.
Upon the close of the member’s discussion a vote was held to determine if the RSU supports the motion. In total 24 votes were cast with 21 in favour of the motion, 2 against and 1 abstention.
The students’ union will shortly outline how it intends to provide members with updates relating to the steps outlined above.
