Elections promise everyone a chance at running for a position that they truly care about – it’s an opportunity to get even more involved in student life and help make the lives of our students as brilliant as possible.
Election season will be upon us pretty much as soon as we return from our Christmas break. The word, and idea of, ‘elections’ may not mean much to you now, but what it should scream is one of the best opportunities of your Roehampton career.
When you decide to nominate yourself for a position and run for it, you gain so many valuable skills. Leadership, organisation, public speaking, creativity – to name but a few which you will see improved endlessly just by running for a position.
You will get to meet new people, make new friends and interact with students you might otherwise never get to talk to. It might seem all about winning, but running is equally as rewarding.
You will be able to nominate yourself from the 17th of January until the 9th of March. After that, there will be panels, live discussions, posters, bed sheets aplenty and campaigning almost 24/7. We will also put on sessions to help you understand the elections process, give you top tips for writing your manifestos and campaigning.
You can nominate yourself for a wide variety of roles, from RSU part time officers such as International Officer or LGBT Officer, to college roles such as Digby President. The full list of roles can be found in the link at the bottom of this article.
Voting opens the following week, on the 16th of March. Almost a week’s worth of voting will then ensue, with voting closing on the 22nd of March. On this day, results will be counted and then announced in our RSU Elections finale.
If you win, congratulations! If you don’t, fear not; you still would have gained valuable skills which will be brilliant for all important interviews post- Roehampton
Whatever happens, we wish you the best of luck and can’t wait to see all of your amazing campaigns! Have fun!
