Nursing and healthcare students are a vital part of the NHS — yet receive little financial support in return. This campaign is here to push for payment for placement hours.
Are you a nursing student?
Roehampton Students' Union is proud to be working with the University of Essex Students’ Union to support the Pay the Placement campaign.
Nursing and healthcare students are a vital part of the NHS. During their studies, they complete over 2,300 hours of unpaid placements, alongside lectures, assignments, and exams — yet receive little financial support in return.
Many nursing students are forced to take on part‑time work while on placement, all while facing rising costs for travel, rent, food, and bills. This situation isn’t fair — and it’s not sustainable.
As part of this campaign, we’re collecting your experiences of placements and studying to build evidence for the UK government and push for payment for placement hours.
