Regenerate is a local charity that works with young people and families in Roehampton and estates across London, helping transform lives and communities from the inside out.
Growhampton have been working together with Regenerate since 2015 when we opened the Hive Cafe on campus where we sell sandwiches from The Feel Good Bakery. The Feel Good Bakery is an exciting new social enterprise. Established by Regenerate, the enterprise is a response to the need we see to provide support and employment for young people caught up in negative behaviour. The Feel Good Bakery trains, coaches and employs young people who are turning their backs on gang life and crime.
The amazing aspect about The Feel Good Bakery is that we are partnering with grassroots organisations that do amazing work with children living in extreme poverty around the world. In buying a sandwich you are personally buying a meal for one of these children.
Since inception, the Hive have sold over 35 000 sandwiches and provided this many meals to cildren living in extreme poverty.
We also work together with Regenerate by participating at their annual Feel Good Festival. This year we brought down our famous smoothie bike, where over 100 children cycled to make their very own banana smoothie.
Paradise Co-Op is a charity that exists to connect food, nature and people through sustainable urban farming and community gardening. They combine participation, education and celebration in cultivating under-used land in Wandsworth.
Growhampton has been working together with Paradise Co-Op since mid 2015 when we partnered up to develop our food education sessions for children living in Wandsworth. After a successful pilot year working together, both Growhampton and Paradise Co-Op have developed their own respective Food Education programmes and continue to collaborate on a Holiday Club for kids every half-term.
Paradise offers some great volunteering opportunities beyond the holiday club, so make sure to check out their web page here.
BeEnriched is a London based charity who aims to enrich the lives of local communities through connecting people,
cultivating respect while sharing skills over a bite and with community activities.
We are happy to welcome BeEnriched to campus as they introduce their latests project, CooksForce, organising cooking sessions for our students. Funded by the Evening Standard's Food for London Fund, CooksForce is a community cooking project designed to inspire good practices in the kitchen with a fresh food approach. The goal is to develop the basic cooking skills of people to enable them to make fresh, delicious, wholesome meals from scratch, at home and on a budget. The course also aims to get people thinking creatively about saving food from being wasted and will use surplus food from local retailers in the practical sessions.
