Dance Society: Tap
Tuesday 27 October 2020
7:30pm - 9pm
On Tuesday, we have our Dance Society President, KAIA KOEHLER teaching TAP, Tuesdays 19:30-21:00 in Monte Hall!
My name is Kaia and I’ll be teaching tap this term! I’m a 3rd year Therapeutic Psychology student and pursue dance professionally during my free time. I started dancing when I was 3 years old and grew up in a competition studio setting in Concord, California competing around the US for 7 years. I’ve represented both the USA, Slovenia, and the UK at the annual IDO Tap Dance World Championships based in Riesa, Germany and placed 5th as a soloist in 2016. During the past year I’ve trained with Tap Attack company based in Swindon and I often teach at Pineapple Dance Studios as well! I love travelling abroad to different tap festivals and I’ve had the opportunity to train with some of the best tap dancers and educators in the world.
My class will be a mix of technique and rudiment training as well as some across the floor work and fun combos! I believe that every tap dancer should understand the history of the art form, so throughout the term I will be introducing relevant material. Improvisation is the root of tap dance, so we will be exploring this concept as well and if you come along to class you will learn what a cutting contest is!!
Can’t wait to see and meet you all so soon!
If you are interested in booking a space on this class, then DM the Dance Society! Please be aware that they have high demand.
