The Writing Society is an academic society that gives writers the opportunity to share work and receive help in a positive environment. Our weekly sessions may take place inside or outside and free refreshments are often provided. We encourage our writers to explore all forms and genres of writing with our prompts and warm-up exercises!
In past years our writers have taken part in UniSlam, the UK’s National University Poetry Slam competition. We are also proud to announce the launch of the Student Journal: Roey Writes On. The fourth edition 'Fantasy' is on sale at The Hive Cafe located in Digby Square.
"You should write because you love the shape of stories and sentences and the creation of different words on a page. Writing comes from reading, and reading is the finest teacher of how to write." - Annie Proulx
President Katy (she/her)
Hiya :) I’m Katy, your president for this year! I’m an avid reader and writer of poetry, and have been published in many zines and small magazines. I’m most looking forward to UniSlam this year and getting together a great team
Vice President Guy (he/him)
Hello! I'm Guy, your vice president. I enjoy toying with high concept science fiction and fantasy, with the odd bit of satire thrown in for good measure. Being part of this society for the past year has encouraged a new confidence in my writing so I can’t wait to see new members grow in our weekly writing sessions. I hope you all find it a comfortable environment and I cannot wait to meet you all!
Activities Officer Lucy
Hey, I'm Lucy and I'm your Activities Officer this year. I love writing poetry and short fiction. I can't wait to see your entries for our journal and plan some fun events for you all!
Hi I’m Tamsin, this year’s treasurer. At the moment I love reading Japanese fiction and children’s books, and writing silly little notes and poems to amuse myself :)
