The University should subsidize the cost of graduation

    Passed
Graduation is when you get to celebrate successfully completing a degree, and making it through three (four) years of hard work. Yet, it seems that the emotional significance of the day is increasingly marred by the huge, up-front costs that graduates and their families are asked to fork out on. A number of students have informed us that they felt disadvantaged by the cost attached to graduation. Roehampton Students' Union feels keeping graduation ceremony costs as low as possible is a priority; as this enables graduating students to celebrate their well earned success and to do so in the presence of their families. Roehampton Students' Union are looking to lobby the university to subsidies the cost of graduation - We feel this is important as all students should be able to celebrate the fruits of their labor at an event designed for them to do so but most importantly part of the beauty of the day is being able to share it with family as well as the splendor of dressing up in the academic gowns but understandably all of these bear a significant cost. Celebrating your degree, with your friends and family around you, is an amazing thing to do, something you only really experience once. It's this that makes it so sad that some people are forced not to attend due to the cost; even if it's only an optional ceremony, it's a very significant one Support this idea so we can work with you to lobby the university to change this for you
