As this month comes to close, we’d like to recap all the exciting events hosted by the Student Union celebrating the history of the LGBTQ+ Community.

We kicked off the celebrations with a brilliant Paint a Plate ‘Crafternoon’ event in which all students could express and pay tribute to this year’s theme ‘Science and Innovation’ as well as take inspiration from LGBTQ+ artists such as Andy Warhol and Frida Kahlo.

Following this, we hosted a guest lecture which examined the links between historical LGBTQ+ backlash and contemporary backlash against the transgender community. Lastly to bring the festivities to a close we hosted a viewing at the David Bell Cinema room of the incredibly thought provoking film ‘Pride’ directed by Matthew Warchus which showed the unlikely alliance between the LGBTQ+ community and the striking Welsh miners in the 80s, a pivotal alliance to the progression of protecting LGBTQ+ Rights.

We’d like to thank all the students who came along to these events to not only raise awareness of LGBTQ+ history but act as a supporter to the community and share in the Union’s commitment to making everyone within our student body feel seen and appreciated.
