We are wishing all Roehampton students, staff and alumni a Happy Pride Month 2026!
We would like to wish our Roehampton LGBTQIA+ Community a Happy Pride Month!
Pride Month takes place in June, and offers us an opportunity to reflect on what strides we have made throughout history for the advancement of LGBTQ+ rights, but also, what more we can achieve through visibility, collaboration, activism, and solidarity.
It is also a time to celebrate and acknowledge the experiences of LGBTQ+ people, not just within Roehampton but across the world. We want to ensure that you feel safe, included, and able to be your true authentic selves throughout your time studying here at Roehampton.
What does Pride mean?
Pride has its roots in protest, stemming from the Stonewall Riots, where trans people of colour led resistance against police violence and long-standing injustice. While Pride is a celebration, it remains a powerful reminder that visibility, solidarity, and access to support are still essential—particularly for young people navigating education, relationships, and identity in a world where diversity is too often demonised.
At its heart, Pride is about collective action: coming together to celebrate shared experiences, stand in unity, and demand better treatment for our communities. It also creates space to educate others on how to show meaningful allyship and support for the LGBTQIA+ community.
To our LGBTQ+ students: you are valued, you are welcome, and you deserve to feel safe and supported at Roehampton — not just during Pride Month, but all year round. Your identities, experiences, and contributions are what makes our university great, and we are committed to continuing work that ensures equality and inclusivity isn’t just a vague or hollow promise, not hiding behind words, but actual meaningful change for our student communities.
