It’s hard to believe it’s only been two weeks since I started my role with Roehampton Students’ Union - it feels like a whole month! From day one, it’s been a whirlwind of meeting incredible people, learning how things operate behind the scenes, and getting a real insight into how the SU works to represent you, the students!

In these first couple of weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to sit down with the amazing RSU team and understand how they handle everything - from day-to-day operations to finance management, and most importantly, how they ensure students' voices are heard and acted upon.

I have attended several key meetings, such as the SU's Board of Trustees, Student Success Team, Student Wellbeing Team, and had an introduction to University Governance and Council Board. On top of that, I’ve taken part in a variety of external and in-house training sessions, all of which are run to help me get to know how to perform my role at my best potential in order for student success.

A few Major highlights have been:

My Student Focus Group meeting, which centred around the Student Disciplinary process. It was such a surreal but insightful experience and helped me understand my peers. Attending the Board of Trustees meeting also gave me great insight into the operations of our university and the students’ union’s functioning.

I’ve already started laying out plans for upcoming campaigns and activities, with a particular interest in Freshers’ Festival that RSU will be hosting from September onwards. Watch this space - there’s plenty of exciting things to come! Including a blueprint of the campaigns and activities I am going to run from September and throughout the year.

Lastly, I want to give a huge shout-out to my predecessor, Adam Fewster, for providing such thorough in-house training and an excellent handover. His guidance has been invaluable in helping me hit the ground running.

It’s been an exciting start — and this is only the beginning!
