up to £10.85 This post is offered to applicants who are students at the University of Roehampton.

Hours

Appointment will be made on a casual basis, with hours agreed during term time between the RSU and Bystander Intervention Leads.

Principal Duties

  • Promote awareness of University’s Zero Tolerance stance on sexual harassment and assault by being present at events and during peak night-time hours.

  • Under the guidance of the RSU Staff/Shift Leader – and liaising with stakeholders and security – intervene where appropriate in problematic situations. 

  • Provide guidance and support to students affected by incidents including, but not limited to, sexual misconduct, intoxication, mental health and ensure the student has information on follow up support offered from the Wellbeing Services.

  • Handle initial disclosures of any nature and provide follow-up that is most appropriate after an event has ended. 

  • Ensure that incident reports are written within an event, and shift summaries written within 24 hours, and sent by email to key RSU staff. 

  • Attend regular supervision meetings with the Bystander Intervention Team, lead by the RSU to ensure the project is continually improving.

  • Be professional at all times when dealing with staff and other students. This includes, but is not limited to, giving reasonable notice when you are unable to work, responding to emails in a timely manner, following instructions from the RSU staff.

  • Uphold the job’s values outside of work, and ensure to not put the University into disrepute. 

  • Foster a culture for (staff and students) to intervene and to stand up to sexual harassment and assault by providing education and resources where appropriate.

A current Roehampton student, preferably but not exclusively aimed at Postgraduate students, Mature students or students in their second/third year 

Knowledge and skills 

A good understanding of consent and the importance of bystander intervention
