Hi I’m Jess. I am a second year Drama & Creative Writing student and have been a member of Players since halfway through my first year. You may remember me from the second Player’s show Punk Rock and Pissed Mean Girls. If it wasn't for the sudden early end to this academic year, you would have seen me in Legally Blonde and the Tempest. Having this experience, I have strongly developed my understanding of how the society works and I am willing to take on a challenge by running for your next President or Vice President for Players 2020-21.
What are my aims for running as either President or Vice President:
- I want to impose on acting and vocal workshops for auditions so that people who are willing to audition for a players play (or in general) don’t feel that they’re thrown in the deep end when it comes to the actual audition. Although many auditions in the society encourage you not to be fully prepared, I still think that it is important that people are comfortable and can come into the space with some (but not full) knowledge of what to expect in a players audition
- I want organise more social events that are BYOB, Bop pres and parties that could be e.g. Musical themed other than Pissed Parodies and Player’s Ball. I think this is especially important since we’ll have some new faces joining us in the next academic year, and it will give them the opportunity to meet new people who may consider joining players before auditions come up.
- I will do my best with being on board to solve any immediate problems or concerns in regards to rehearsals and events. No one should have to feel uncomfortable or under threat whilst rehearsing or partaking in events. If at all, people will always have me as their first point of contact and I will straight away make sure that the situation is solved with the right measures and asap.
- I am willing to ensure that the society is run smoothly. That is organising the exact show dates for all four shows in advance, helping sort out rehearsal dates for those who are putting on shows, keeping an eye on the society budget so we don't go over it too soon and the most important thing of all, encouraging new freshers and society members to partake in our shows.
- I want to make sure that every show has one safe space officer. This doesn't mean they'll have to attend every single rehearsal, but it will reassure cast members who may have problems or concerns about the rehearsal process. Obviously the director and producer will be there for you to talk to as well.
- I promise I will get loads of sweeties for Fresher's fair!
- How will I get freshers involved?
- I will be a flat-rep next year so as well as encouraging every other fresher in and around campus at freshers fair, I will also encourage my own freshers to participate in players plays and events
- I will also share any upcoming players auditions and events on most Roehampton related facebook groups and ensure flyers are posted all around campus
