Jess Sbresni’s SSOAP election manifesto
Hello lovely people of Roehampton! You may remember me from Redwater, Sherlock, Assvengers and BeeMovie. I played Chadwick in the contemporary Players show Punk Rock a couples of months back if you went to see that. If you were here last year, I was also in Willy Wonka, Peter Pan, Shrek the Third and I wrote a Robin Hood drunken drama. Obviously, they’ll be many more of these to come! Whether that’s writing a play again or performing mindlessly drunk on stage, or simply BOTH! For SSOAP 2020/21, I believe I have a lot to offer for the role of a Social Secetary.
What I love about SSOAP:
- The majority of activities and performances I’ve have done with SSOAP are always fun and inclusive
- How events are effectively spread across social media so that everyone who is a part of the society has the opportunity to come along to them and bring friends
- Being at each event, I’ve always felt welcomed and a part of the society regardless of who I am
- Drunken drama!
- The people!
Why I want to be a part of the committee:
- I am a person who is always open to new ideas and helping out other people build on their ones, especially when it comes to planning SSOAP socials and drunken dramas
- I am willing to challenge myself in partially running SSOAP, being responsible for booking the diner and encouraging people from across campus to participate and have fun. It is something I haven’t done before but I am thoroughly keen to give this a go.
- I have a good understanding of how SSOAP works and what's involved in each committee role.
- I feel I have the confidence to deal with social events and bookings as I have booked venues on campus previously and am aware of any issues that arises. I will have the capacity to deal with these booking issues just as I did when booking a venue in general
- And obviously, I LOVE SSOAP TOO MUCH!
Why I think I can be a suitable social secretary?
- Being organised is one of my biggest strengths. I feel I have the capacity to ensure that we hire out the most appropriate social spaces for events and performances
- I believe in social inclusion. I feel it is essential that everyone and anyone is included in the society, regardless of their interests, background, race, gender and sexuality
- I believe in ‘Can’ rather than ‘Cannot’ in terms of doing things. Everyone is capable with being creative and having the ability to share their ideas in the space. If SSOAP can and has done it, so can you!
- Most importantly, BE YOURSELVES!
What I could add to SSOAP?
- As well as drunk dramas and parties, I would like to add some therapy events that involve drama and art and are more low-key than the other events. These could be things like an arts and crafts evening, a movie night where we can watch live theatre (NT live, Barbican live) in our onesises and pyjamas, open mics, Bop and other hangover cure events where we bring bread and positivity into the space (Union or somewhere indoors in the winter time, Richmond park in the summertime?)
- Monologue and live art workshops would be a good thing to bring to SSOAP. It would enable students to build their confidence with their art and theatre skills before presenting them on monologue evenings and live art events
- More laughter, fun and games at social events and putting on shows!
Please take some time to consider me for this position in the SSOAP society.
If you have any further questions about my intentions for being the Social Secretary, feel free to drop me a message via Facebook as ‘Jess Sbresni’.
Lots of love and stay safe xx
