Film is something that has been present in everybody’s life one way or another, whether that may be through trips to the cinema since we were younger, the creation of our own films, the constant streaming films through the internet or even the home made films from our families, film is a concept that, one way or another, is present in all of our lives. 

This means film is something we, as human beings, can bond over, create connections over, and that is when things like a film society come to play. A film society is a chance to not only explore our love and knowledge for film, but a chance to connect and bond with others and learn about ourselves and each other.

This is why I want to be President of the film society, because I know the film society has so much more potential that can be explored, and I want to help explore that potential further into something that we can all be proud of.

I want to do this by setting a series of goals.

MAIN GOALS

• Explore the society’s full potential.

• Create a safe and inclusive space for everyone.

• Develop a strong bond between committee and members.

In order to go through with these goals, we have a set of secondary goals.

SECONDARY GOALS

• Even though I plan to keep the classic form of screening films as the film society is known for hosting, I will also implement a more diverse set of events alongside the classic film screenings, such as:

  • Make-A-Film in 24h, type of contest.

  • Bring in special guests to give interactive talks.

  • Screenings of short films that people have made and would like to share.

  • Debates about relevant topics for the film field (example of topics: the importance of films, why make films?, women in film, lgbtq+ in film, etc)

  • Game/Interactive nights.

  • And more!

• Make of the society’s facebook page a place where we not only communicate our events and inquiries, but also a place where people feel free to ask for help on film related projects and/or to offer their services for film related projects.

• Implement an inclusive language and make sure people are respectful of one another, and ensure that if people do not follow this, they will be confronted about it.

• Continue the making use of trigger warnings when announcing screenings.

• Develop a big online presence, constantly asking members what things they would like to see implemented or removed, and asking their opinions about events that took place.

With the help of these goals and my team, I am hoping I get to continue the work of the film society and just keep on making it better so we all get to have an amazing time while being a part of it!
