I’ll be the change you want to see in the world

Mina for BAME officer:

My aim as your BAME officer is to bridge the gap between communities.

I want to create a safe, inclusive and inviting environment for our next BAME fresher’s and the generations to follow. I intend to work closely with college presidents to ensure Flat reps are aware of the plethora of religious and cultural societies available and are passing on this information to their freshers.

Throughout my time as BAME officer, I will consistently make an effort to work closely with all faith and culture societies to help them tackle issues surrounding racism and inclusivity.

I look forward to working with the Coexist society to hold events where everyone is welcome.

I aim to bring together all faith and culture societies once a month to take part in activities, showcases or workshops.

Any change begins with conversation, as conversation leads to understanding;

As your BAME officer, I will push for more debates and discussions about systematic racism, White supremacy, colourism, and so on, to create a safe environment for everyone to learn and slowly but surely, find ways to move forward and find solutions to these heavy topics.

Throughout our education, we are constantly taught about the hardships ethnic minorities have faced. I want to change that narrative and focus on celebrating our growth. I intend to do this by holding more events showcasing our talents; from more spoken word to arts and culture nights.

I also plan to work closely with programme reps, lecturers and VP of Education to work towards for decolonising the education curriculum.

I am passionate about making Roehampton a place where ethnic diversity is proudly embraced and represented; a place where everyone can come together to be the change they want to see the world – because in unity, there is strength.
