Because when there is a Will…There is a way.

Hi Roehampton!

My name is Will Searle and I am a Masters Student studying Sport Psychology.

I have experience from, not just Roehampton, but also Chichester University that helps me know what does and doesn’t work within a University experience. With that in mind, here are the key objectives that you can bank on me putting into place for you:

My Key Objectives:

NO DEADLINE CLASHES WITH KEY UNIVERSITY EVENTS – There are numerous examples of this across the University. For example, current third year dance students have their dissertations due in around the time of these elections, making it impossible to run for any roles. Primary Ed students' timetables clash with the Sports Tour and, in previous years, Varsity has run on the same day as Module Selections. My mission is to ensure these clashes DO NOT occur across all courses; enabling you, the students, to get the best of both worlds.

MORE CONTROL Over Timetables – My aim is to give students more power over their timetables. For example, if you are in five days a week, but three of those days are just an hour or so, you should have the option to vote against that and make a class decision to merge contact time together; giving you the possibility of much-needed days off.

MORE CONTROL OVER PLACEMENTS – I want to give students that go on placement once a year the opportunity to choose which term they complete their placement in. By picking the term you complete your placement in, timetables can be shaped and lecture/seminar groups can be formed on the back of the semester which you choose.

ONLINE TUTORIAL BOOKINGS – Never underestimate the power of tutorials when it comes to coursework. During my time at Chichester, students were able to use an online booking system to book a tutorial. Tutorials need to be more easily accessible to students here in Roehampton, as a lot of lecturers require you to use a sign-in sheet on their door (EFFORT). It will be compulsory for all tutors to have an online platform to book tutorials on; making tutorials and BETTER GRADES more accessible.

ONLINE MITAGATING CIRCUMSTANCES FORMS – Again, mitigating circumstances are not easy enough to complete at this University. In using its outdated hand-in system, it makes it harder for students that really need extensions to manage to get them granted. There are students out there that simply cannot get in to hand in the forms and, therefore, don’t get extensions. This isn’t acceptable and there is no reason for this not to be online in this day and age – there simply needs to be a platform for it to be implemented on.

My experience has shown me that this manifesto is more than achievable. All that is required is a certain someone with a STRONG PERSONALITY and DRIVE to implement the change. When voting for me, you are voting for the best possible chance of forcing a change.

TAKE CONTROL.
