I want to recognise involvement of Roehampton students with extra credit, and create more opportunities for them through networking with other London universities. #YOURVOICEMATTERS #STACEY4VP_ED

Hi Roehampton peeps!! My name is Stacey Grimes, I’m in my final year of Biological sciences and I’m very excited to be running for the position of VP of Education!

Ever since I came to Roehampton as a scared little fresher I have been offered numerous opportunities to actively get involved and improve the university, with my position as Department Rep of Life sciences being the highlight. Throughout this year I’ve worked closely with Liam (our current VP Ed), the RSU and programme reps to put student voice into action and with your vote I hope to reinforce and extend these efforts. After all, the most important and powerful voice in the uni belongs to YOU!!

My goal as VP Education is to represent the student body and its academic concerns, ensure all students have access to high-quality academic support and introduce new ideas and policies, such as:

  • Keep Wednesdays free for all students; whether you work, play sports or simply would appreciate a mid-week break, I want to extend the current policy to include all foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate students and recognise the importance of external activities in academic success.

  • Create a cooperative network with other London universities; from encouraging the “exchange” of professionals and guest speakers to increasing placement opportunities, the local universities can offer a huge variety of resources and a mutually beneficial relationship will drastically improve Roehampton.

  • Offer placements in more academic departments; even though placements are well-established and required for certain departments (like Education), I want to offer students of all departments the opportunity to go on placement as an optional module. This is a great chance to get first-hand experience in real life work settings, as well as setting a foundation for future internships and employment after graduation. The cooperative network mentioned above will be heavily linked with this attempt.

  • Allocate extra credit for extracurricular involvement; this innovative idea will formally recognise the time and effort students put into their involvement with the university. From volunteering to representing a body of students by being a programme rep, or an elected part-time officer, I will work with the university in order to officially acknowledge the students that help better Roehampton by offering extra credit that will show on their degree. So don’t hesitate and get involved!!

I have been actively involved with both the social and academic aspect of student life during my (almost) three years at Roehampton, and now I’m asking for your vote to continue working hard on improving this place I call home. Your ideas are incredibly valuable and I’d be honoured to represent them. YOUR VOICE MATTERS!!

If you already have a favoured candidate, please consider me as your 2nd vote and you won’t be disappointed!
