Our team is complete when everyone is included

My name is Danielle Chegwidden and I intend on ensuring the legacy of inclusiveness, equality, and freedom of Sport at Roehampton. Sport has always been a significant part of my life because sport opens a multitude of pathways for you, as female sport president I will utilise these opportunities and make them available to you, you are the new movement, but you just need the opportunity. Making coaching courses, officiating courses more frequent and open to all who want to further their knowledge in sport. As I believe when you know the rules, regulations, and effort that is poured into your sport it makes you a well-rounded and valuable player to your team.

After discussing with current and pass students one thing that appears to be missing from the sport Roehampton line up. It’s clear that there isn’t a strong line between sport and the mental health services available already on campus. They seem to excel separately but I believe in a strong partnership between them. I believe in doing what makes you happy so when I feel aggravated or need an escape, I play basketball. Supported by the ladies of that team and the energy of the sport I am separate to those troubles. Do what makes you happy. Sport is used as a multitude of outlets but not only as an escape, athletes already competing struggle internally with their individual performance, don’t change doing what makes you happy into a chore. These links between both sport Roehampton and the mental health services will help to improve the way you view yourself and carrying on DOING WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY!

Every sport is extensively valued by sport Roehampton with a list of unique and diverse sports available that need to be shared more! As an athlete for two teams at the university I believe that there is nothing better and more supporting than your sporting family. The unique smaller and social sports are important and deserve moments in the spotlight. Deeper and stronger coverage will be supplied across the board, showcases and friendlies carry the same value as mainstream league games.

As your current female varsity captain, I can draw on the experience of organising related events and the support it takes to deliver on a mass scale. Varsity as a whole brings the university of both sporting and non-sporting students together as essentially one family supporting each other and boosting each other. As much as varsity is for the sporting students, I cannot emphasise enough how much it is an event for the spectators, our athletes perform their best when surrounded by a positive atmosphere which is crustal. In order to develop a seamless Varsity day, I intend on using the feedback of peers from the previous year’s captains, volunteers, and spectators who have a first-hand experience to help me re-run the programme, similar with awards evening. These spectacles are events for you so I need to know exactly what you want.
