A vote for me, is a voice for you.

Hello Southlands, I’m Minaal Ali, and I want to be your Southlands College President.

This college has been a part of my life for three years so far, I’ve made some great memories, and even greater friends, and I want to take this opportunity to give back to Southlands, and ensure that every student can say the same.

Having been the Southlands Deputy President this year, as well as a student here for a few years now, I have the experience and knowledge it takes to excel in this position. Working along side staff and students, we have already achieved so many things, such as: events and entertainment in the reef, two consecutive wins in the college cup so far, and soon the infamous Southlands boat party which I am currently organising. I hope to continue to add to these achievements till the end of the year as your deputy and continue into next year as your College President.

My Goals as Southlands College President:

  •  Contactless card washing machines (I know this has been promised for a while now, but I refuse to leave Southlands until we can wash our clothes without having to scrounge for pound coins!)

  •  Stronger WiFi connection around Southlands

  • Refurbishing the reef

  • Continue to keep students updated through social media

  • Work closely with the college DP to create events and particularly the “Southland’s Tour.” Like many sports teams at the university who go away once a year, I would like to create something similar for all students at Southlands.

  •  Upon engaging with students I’ve been made that the prices of food in the reef are high, (I can relate because I paid £6.50 for a salad and there wasn’t even any dressing left! *sigh*) I hope to work with the relevant staff to lower these prices.

I hope to engage and work closely with staff, flat reps and students to bring awareness to any problems or concerns, and will discuss these in student council meetings to ensure improvements are made. I want to not only improve Southlands, but work as a college on improving the university. As deputy president my role requires me to organise events and campaigns and I want to work with staff and the RSU to create even bigger events and opportunities for the entire university.

Whether it be creating study hubs around the university, or ensuring the library is left open for longer, I hope this is something which can be done to ensure students are utilising resources, which means less stressing about assignments and dissertations and more time for social events!

This role requires me to be the voice of Southlands and the RSU and I believe I am the right candidate for the role. You’ve known me as your deputy president, but now it’s time for me to step up to the challenge and be your president.

A vote for me, is a voice for you.
