I've proven I'm more than just a talker, so re-elect Walker as your Vice President of Community and Welfare!

Hello Roehampton,

My name is George Walker and I'm your current Vice President of Community and Welfare. Typically a candidate re-running in the elections would list the things they’ve achieved this year, however Roehampton I’d like to talk about the things we’ve achieved so far as a team!

We’ve raised awareness around Mental Health and supported numerous campaigns such as the #AskTwice campaign to help reduce the stigma associated with poor mental health.

We’ve seen the introduction of a Safer Roehampton Intern and with the help of the bystander team we’ve stood united against sexual harassment, sexual assault and hate crime.

We’ve raised a literal glass at many of the events together and a metaphorical G.L.A.S.S. where we asked students to Get Lively And Stay Safe by encouraging safer drinking behaviours.

We ran a successful Women’s Conference where we challenged the unwanted behaviours in society and reinforced this through the Consent Campaign that followed.

So what can we achieve together if you Re-elect me as your Vice President of Community and Welfare?

We’ve raised awareness around mental health. It’s now the time to lobby the university to adopt a mental health strategy which would see the student body accredited as Mental Health First Aiders and a commitment from the university to improving the support available for those suffering from poor mental health.

Consent campaigns are important to educate our students around what constitutes consent. However there is no reason why the online consent training cannot be part of the enrolment process. This would mean no student can enrol at Roehampton without having an understanding of what constitutes consent.

The Safer Roehampton Intern and I ran many campaigns to help improve the safety both on and off campus. However Students still do not feel safe and this is quite frankly unacceptable. If re-elected I will ensure the Safer Roehampton intern roles is continued in some capacity and continue to lobby the university to improve safety both on and off campus.

The RSU was the 4th best Student Union in Green Impact last year, which is an amazing achievement. However the need to create a greener and more sustainable future is now more important than ever! It is therefore vital that we lobby the University to continue to monitor and improve the impact it has on the environment.

However Roehampton my Manifesto is incomplete. The RSU is run and mandated by its student body. With over 7,000 students and 400 student representatives it is only fair that you have the final say in what my completed manifesto looks like. If re-elected I promise to campaign for the changes you want to see at your University!

Students of Roehampton I have truly loved every minute of representing you all within the capacity of my role and I would love the opportunity to continue to represent you again.

I’ve proven that I’m more than just a talker, so re-elect Walker as your Vice President of Community and Welfare.
