Abbigail Parkin

A vote for Abbigail Parkin is a vote for being listened to and heard! For putting forward a fearless president who is on your side.

I am in my first year at Roehampton, I study Therapeutic Psychology as I am interested in mental health and childhood traumas. I would like to apply for the Whitelands College President role as I am dedicated to Whitelands and making it better.

I am hard working and dedicated to making Whitelands better. I am always open-minded and looking for ideas from other students, to which I will actively listen to their opinions. I am confident with speaking and standing up for people. I am also confident when it comes to social media and putting my face out there. I am very organised and like to be prepared for everything.

I have chosen these areas to focus on if I become president.

Cost of living-

Transport

  • I would like to provide a university bus to Kingston, as well as extending the times and frequency of the buses.

Food Bank

  • Food donated from companies or students. For example, anyone who would be leaving food behind when going away could donate it to a food bank, instead of it going to waste.

Period products/sexual health

  • Provide free period products, condoms and STI kits. These could be anonymous accessed by showing a ticket to collect from NEST. Alternatively from, Roehampton SU or toilets.

Teaching accessibility

Online learning

  • Make all lectures and seminars virtual for students who have evidence for their absence - provide QR codes for those who need the virtual classes.

Support with Education/Careers

  • Short courses (CV builder, how to reference and essay support) run by the Library - have them come to Whitelands.

Study rooms/ quite areas

  • Provide more study areas/rooms on Whitelands – let students book classrooms to allow study groups.

Community

Sett bar

  • Weekly events – Wii (Just Dance, Wii Sports, Mario Kart) and quizzes.
  • Stream sport events
  • Monthly get togethers. E.g. flat vs. flat. Including games, music, and karaoke. As well as (non-alcoholic/alcoholic) drinks and snacks.

Whiteland's holiday

  • Get the students to vote for a location.

Communication

  • Whitelands group chat, with all freshers, flat reps, and students living on campus. This means updates or events can be sent to them.

Wellbeing

  • Put posters up with a QR code for the Wellbeing app.
  • Support men's mental health. We want get rid of the stigma via promoting support groups and apps.

Events

  • Movies in William Norris theatre, BBQs, outdoor cinema, summer festival, sport activities, weekend trips and day trips to theme parks.

If you vote Abbigail for the Whitelands President, I will raise better support for cost of living and help create more teaching accessibility. I want to create a welcoming, lively, and close community where everyone knows each other and feels safe and comfortable, through my events! Keep the campus environment clean. I believe in equality for all, diversity by celebrating all cultures
