Be Seen, Vote for Irene!

Hello Roehampton Students!

My name is Irene, I am a third year international student studying Education Studies and I want to be your VP of Education!

You may know me as the friendly face behind the Union Bar, but during my time at Roehampton I have been involved with many exciting projects across campus:

  • In my first year, I served as a Programme Representative, engaging with fellow students to address course-related challenges. Advocating for my peers, I provided constructive feedback to course convenors, aiming to enhance the overall academic experience.

  •  In the spring of 2022, I ran a successful campus-wide campaign, raising funds and collecting essential donations to aid Ukrainian refugees impacted by the ongoing conflict.

  • During my second year, I completed a placement at the Student Engagement Team, focusing on enhancing the international student experience. This experience provided valuable insights into the challenges faced by international students and allowed me to propose effective solutions for supporting this community.

  • Additionally, I have actively contributed as a Student Representative in the revalidation of several programs, ensuring inclusivity and representation of student needs both inside and outside the classroom.

If elected as your VP of Education:

  • I aim to improve teaching accessibility by advocating for the implementation of hybrid learning across all programmes and courses. This initiative will not only benefit our commuting students, but also students with disabilities, ensuring that our learning environment is truly accessible for all students.

  • I aim to enhance graduate outcomes through introducing industry networking opportunities by collaborating with the careers team to organise a range of networking events for all students across a variety of industries. As well as create alumni engagement opportunities, which will provide students the unique chance to connect with graduates who have successfully established themselves in their respective fields.

  • I aim to implement sport wednesdays (no lectures on wednesday afternoons) to not only support student athletes by ensuring that participating in sports will not interfere with student’s academic commitments, but also to foster increased participation in sports societies, ultimately enhancing the overall student experience.

  • I aim to introduce welcome weeks for every intake to provide all students the opportunity to be introduced to societies, job opportunities, wellbeing support and everything else that Roehampton has to offer; This would not only help students to make friends and have a better experience, but also support graduate outcomes, giving the opportunity for every student to be supported.

  • I aim to implement practical courses, such as workshops and seminars where students can gain practical career skills, ensuring that every student leaves Roehampton feeling prepared to reach their goals!

  • I aim to establish more connections with universities overseas in order to create more affordable and accessible opportunites for study abroad programmes.

These are just a few of my ideas, but if elected I promise to advocate for all students’ needs and concerns, ensuring that every student has access to a high-quality education, resources and support systems. Remember, if you want to be SEEN, vote for IRENE!
