Manifesto

Hi, I am Alabhya & as a candidate for Vice President of Community and Welfare, I am committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all members of our community. Having moved from one community to another, I've gained insights into inter-community communication and steps for the collective well-being. I am an active listener and a prompt worker.  My manifesto outlines my vision and goals:

1) With regards to Climate:

a. Being President of Desi Society, I understand the effect of events which Societies hold, therefore I would encourage them to host events with regards to Climate change, its effect and our roles to preserve environment.

b. Encouraging university students to use their own reusable cups when purchasing drinks on campus helps reduce paper consumption.

2) Cost-of-Living:

a. Regarding transportation, I propose adding a new route for our university bus to reach the Putneymead Health Clinic in East Putney. Many of our students have GP appointments there, as it is our designated NHS clinic, if not in our own medical center.

b. For Social activities which accounts for 47% as per the RSU Big Survey, I would try my best to subsidise the events happening on campus.

c. Working with NUS and other organisations to check on students who are facing difficulty in meeting their needs.

3) Academics:

a. I propose making it mandatory to appoint a module representative who will conduct weekly reviews of ‘teaching quality’ and ‘student comprehension’. Given the diverse backgrounds of both students and teachers, accent-related comprehension issues may arise, and these reviews can address such challenges.

b. Feedback forms to be filled anonymously by students about the quality of curriculum apart from teaching.

c. Sitting down with reps and teachers to enhance the curriculum level.

d. Working with library staff for easy accessibility & addition of the academic & other books.

4) Career advancement:

a. Working with Careers and placements team for a richer and more developed network of employers.

b. I will try my best to ensure that more placements are paid.

5) Collaborating with the Accommodations team, I aim to propose initiatives to reduce or freeze rent costs and offer discounts to students in need.

6)Diversity and Inclusion:

a. Implement initiatives to celebrate and embrace diversity within our community. More societies from different backgrounds.

b. Foster cultural exchange programs to promote understanding and appreciation among different communities.

c. Creating safe spaces and educating against stereotypes for fostering LGBTQ+ inclusivity.

7)Mental Health Support:

a. Expand mental health resources and counselling services on campus by working with the well-being team.

b. Organize workshops and events focused on stress management, mindfulness, and self-care.

c. Advocate for destigmatizing mental health issues and promoting open discussions about well-being.

As VP of Community and Welfare, I'm committed to fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive community where every member feels valued, respected, and empowered. Let's work together to prioritize the well-being of all members and build a stronger, more resilient community.

PLEASE VOTE:)

Sincerely,

Alabhya Kumar Tiwari
