You can't have Classics without History and you can't have History without Classics. Both are such fundamental topics to understanding human nature and the world we live in today: they teach valuable skills, help to expand your knowledge and overall - are absolutely amazing to learn about! I have been studying in the realm of Classics for the last 7 years of my life, and I would not change it for the world. It has enabled me to meet so many talented individuals, open my eyes to new aspects of both the ancient and modern world and given me opportunities I never thought I'd get. I too studied History throughout GCSE and A Level and working with both subjects in conjunction together was a phenomenal experience which has helped me become driven and more determined to make Classics, and History too, a more inclusive and welcoming subject where class, gender, religion, race, sexuality and any other social barrier does not limit you in your studies. I currently write for the charity Academus too and I want to help others get more opportunities within this subject and create a fun space!
As President I promise to create fun and engaging activities for everyone to enjoy and explore that will be welcome to everyone; access to a lot of incredible lecturers; help us all create a unified community that can navigate us getting out of this crazy year which is full of support and love! You will always be able to count on me to deliver 100% and give my all in every situation and create events and gatherings for - you. I promise to help make the best society Roehampton has seen and build on the foundations that the previous Classics societies have created. Fun, engaging, and helpful.
After the year we have all experienced, we all need to pull together and in the words of Horace 'carpe diem' !
