Dear fellow members of the Roehampton Politics Society,
My name is Meg, and I am an LLB Law student asking for your support in being voted in as the next Vice-President of our society.
My several reasons for standing in this election are rooted in a deep desire to help make everybody's time with the society as rewarding as possible, while also working hard to benefit your individual interests in terms of both academia as well as prospective careers.
Looking forward to a brighter and more promising year, I would like to start by proposing the launch of a very exciting project for everyone keen on acquiring hands-on experiences in international relations, politics, debating, and public speaking: RMUN. The Roehampton Model United Nations would be an excellent opportunity for our members and other students to participate in a rich and engaging celebration of critical skills and teamwork and leadership abilities—all with a focus on tackling worldly issues and policy-oriented international resolutions.
On a similar note, as the Vice-President I would also propose that our society hosts an annual Speech and Debate Competition, with a marked emphasis on relevant socio-political discourse. Such an activity would in my opinion be the perfect addition to a strengthened practice of stimulating panel discussions, enabling us all to see and feel the essence of our society for ourselves.
Frequent ventures like such would provide the society with some amazing chances to collaborate with similar-natured societies accross the Roehampton community, in addition to being able to go intervarsity with our events. Larger participation through these ways is a key objective in my agenda for the role.
In the same vein, as Vice I will be making every effort to effectively promote our programs and society, in a bid to boost our numbers as well as standing. I will also work hard to cultivate a stronger appeal to new students joining Roehampton. That could take the shape of a more robust embrace of the social media platforms available to us, as well as the potential creation of new non-signatory committee roles.
I believe that my experiences as a sitting officer in the Law Society and as former President of the Student Council (before Roehampton) have given me a good preparation for this position and what it actually entails. The experience and knowledge I've been lucky enough to accumulate through similar roles in the past will be aiding me in contributing the best of myself to the society, as well as in doing my utmost for you every single day.
Because I believe there's a great leader within each member of this society, I will also be proposing the hosting of an all-members meeting every other month. Through promoting transparency and involvement, such as by opening the committee up to Q&A sessions and allowing members to submit or take charge of the projects in our plans, our society's work will become more meaningful and enjoyable than ever.
I want your vote because I genuinely feel like I could help make a positive difference in the framework and programme of the society, especially in terms of making your membership as engaging and worthwhile as it can possibly be.
Should you deem me worthy of your vote, it would be my honor to work alongside such motivated and inspiring people, both in and out of the committee.
I sincerely thank you for your time and consideration!
