Making time for mental health - you're worth the effort.

Hello! My name is Emily, a 2nd year Primary Education student and I am running to be your next year's Mental Health Officer.

In a world where mental health is becoming increasingly more regular - I want to provide a safe space for Roehampton students throughout their studies. To remind people that its okay not to be okay and that there is always support readily available for those who need or want to access these.

If elected, I will strive to:

  • Continue to support successful campaigns from this years RSU team such as the AlrightMate?Movemeber and Women in Mind movements - whilst introducting my own including awareness of domestic abuse and violence, drug spiking and creating more emphasis for World Mental Health Day.
  • Implement an online mental health support system for students, so support is always available whatever time of day you need it.
  • Encourage colleges to make mental health first aid training mandatory for all flat reps. Flat reps should be proficient in dealing with mental health issues for if mental health emergencies occur out of hours.
  •  Implement a 'chill out zone' in each of the four colleges to allow students to have a safe space to relax.

However, this campaign isn't about me - it is about you! I know how easy it is to feel forgotten or in a place where you feel like you can't access support but I want you to have the opportunity to speak and where I can listen. Use me as the voice to make this university a safer and better place to live, whatever you think the university can do to support us with mental health, we can make a change together!
