Samuel Jay Laughton

Sam, Sam, he's our man! (They also go by they/them pronouns).

My name is Samuel Laughton, a 3rd-year Creative Writing and Drama student, and I'm running for the next Roehampton LGBTQ+ Officer.

I am queer, and go by he/him and they/them pronouns.

I have been happily out before coming to this university, and thankfully this has been a very accepting university. I have felt very welcomed by the LGBTQ+ society and the accessible wellbeing services to my aid too. So I am running in these by-elections to be able to give back, and to help out over the following terms for a university that made me feel safe and secure.

If I am elected, I will focus on these following points:

  • Trans IDs-
To work with the current Trans Officer to continue the development of allowing trans students to put their names on their student IDs.

  • UoR Pride
Follow on from the previous LGBTQ+ officer's plans, and arrange an UoR Pride event on-campus.

  • Promoting Events
Advertise and promote wider London LGBTQ+ events and panels; more so virtually now.

  • Improved Communication
Increase communication between the LGBTQ+ societies and students with the RSU.

And more, with the progression of the University under the new supervision of our current RSU President, I feel these points, and any further issues or possible plans will be accessible and feasible.
